About the American College of Surgeons’ New Capitol Hill Location
20 F Street NW, Washington, DC

As the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has sought to play a more active and influential role in Washington, DC, the move of its Division of Advocacy and Health Policy to the newly constructed building located at 20 F Street, NW, is an investment in the future of surgery and a commitment to the broader medical community. The College’s centralized presence on Capitol Hill represents a new era in surgery, shaped by a united surgical community speaking with one voice about the issues that affect patient care and the surgical profession.

ACS Building Use
Previously based in Georgetown, the ACS Division of Advocacy and Health Policy staff work to promote public policy initiatives of importance to surgeons and their patients. The 20 F building will allow the College to hire more staff people in congressional and regulatory affairs without physical restriction. ACS headquarters remain in Chicago.

Uniting Surgery
The new building has meeting areas large enough for ACS to convene with other specialty societies with common interests, bringing the surgical community together as a united presence. For example, ACS often coordinates efforts with other mission-similar groups to address outcomes-related topics, and participates in coalitions seeking to achieve passage of legislation regarding Medicare payment, liability and health system reforms.
