Trauma Prevention

Speed cameras near schools and parks can be a valuable tool in reducing pedestrian accidents

Trauma care providers are among the first to encounter the aftermath of pedestrian-automobile accidents resulting in injuries to children. In the U.S., that mode of injury is the second leading cause of injury-related death for children between the ages of five and fourteen. In this video, Deborah Loeff, MD, FACS, a pediatric trauma surgeon at Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago, discusses the importance of reducing pedestrian accidents among children by installation of speed cameras near schools and parks in Chicago.  (Video courtesy of the University of Chicago)
